Fair Oaks Homes For Sale
Fair Oaks Homes For Sale| Atherton Real Estate
Atherton real estate includes a variety of neighborhoods. The Fair Oaks neighborhood is nestled between the cities of Atherton, Menlo Park and Redwood City.
Neighborhood Introduction & History
While less well- known than other Atherton real estate neighborhoods, Fair Oaks homes for sale are no less desirable! People seeking spacious homes, wooded settings and great schools find themselves at home here. Many houses in this neighborhood are single-story ranch homes on large parcels. Sprinkled among the various streets are grand old manors from the days when estates located near the Fair Oaks train station were highly desired by San Francisco’s oldest families. While there is some new construction, the neighborhood’s proximity to rapidly-appreciating Lindenwood makes it a relative value. This is balanced by the fact that there is a bit less of a community ambiance than Lindenwood. However, if you are looking for a home with great schools and plenty of space, Atherton Oaks could be a great option for you.
Housing types & styles in the Neighborhood
The many pre-World War II homes in Fair Oaks give it considerable charm and desirability. They were built largely in two waves. First in the mid-1920s and then in the late 1930s. These Craftsman, Tudor or Dutch Colonial homes are usually well over 2000 sq.ft. and occasionally over 4000 sq.ft. A third wave of building around 1960 produced large contemporary homes. Even though this is an old neighborhood, the lots are usually wide. They are not narrow and deep as was the typical pre-World War II configuration. As always, location drives the sales prices in Atherton Oaks. The most valuable properties are situated at the end of the wooded cul-de-sacs off of Fair Oaks Lane. Homes closer to busier streets or the Caltrain tracks often sell for about fifteen percent less than those in more interior locations. Nevertheless, they still offer Atherton’s quintessential blend of spacious floor plans, heritage trees, and manicured grounds.
Restaurants & Shopping
Fair Oaks is very close to the downtown shopping and restaurants of Menlo Park and Palo Alto. Both town centers feature unique and upscale retail shops and restaurants surrounded by tree lined streets. Chains are common here too, affording residents a wide variety of shopping and dining experiences. Fair Oaks lies between 101 and El Camino Real, offering easy access to the amenities of the Peninsula.
Family Lifestyle, Parks & Activities
Holbrook-Palmer Park is a 22 acre park in Atherton with a ball field, tennis courts and a playground. There are also walking paths and gardens. It offers recreational programs and has facilities for functions. Fair Oak’s proximity to downtown Menlo Park and Palo Alto affords residents easy access to farmers’ markets, parks, concerts, festivals, nightlife, and a variety of family activities.
