Lindenwood is one of the most sought after neighborhoods in Atherton homes for sale. Read on for more information on Lindenwood homes for sale.
Neighborhood Introduction & History
Lindenwood is a private, pristine neighborhood at the northeast corner of Atherton. Bordered by Bay Road, Ringwood Avenue, Middlefield Road and Marsh Road, the neighborhood is kept quiet with just a few entrances to the completely enclosed community, with virtually no through traffic.
Homes here are often set back from the street, with lots of at least an acre, and mature, tall trees create a lush canopy above the curving streets. A variety of architecture gives the historic neighborhood a picturesque appeal, and close proximity to Menlo Park and Palo Alto downtowns and schools make this a very desirable neighborhood in which to live.
Housing types & styles in the Neighborhood
Nearly all the original homes, built from the late 1930s to the late 1950s, are single-story sprawling ranch houses. The contemporary-style “flattop” home is also fairly common here, including one designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Lindenwood is casual but decidedly affluent, a beautiful neighborhood of lush landscaping and narrow winding streets with no sidewalks. The unassuming homes are more than ample, virtually always over 2000 sq.ft. and often in the 3000 and even 4000 sq.ft. range. Some are in original condition but many have been expensively updated. The newer homes are relatively modest multi-million dollar mansions of over 5000 sq.ft. in size. Lots are generally just under an acre. The many cul-de-sacs and short streets add to the relaxed, even serene ambiance. With virtually no through traffic and tall trees which create a lush canopy above the maze-like curving streets, one can appreciate the secluded design of the neighborhood.
Restaurants & Shopping
Lindenwood is very close to the downtown shopping and restaurants of Menlo Park and Palo Alto. Both town centers feature unique and upscale retail shops and restaurants surrounded by tree lined streets. Chains are common here, too, however, affording residents a wide variety of shopping and dining experiences. Lindenwood lies between 101 and El Camino Real, offering easy access to the amenities of the Peninsula.
Family Lifestyle, Parks & Activities
Holbrook-Palmer Park is a 22 acre park in Atherton with a ball field, tennis courts & a playground amid walking paths & gardens. It offers recreational programs and has facilities for functions. Lindenwood’s proximity to downtown Palo Alto and Menlo Park affords residents easy access to farmers’ markets, parks, concerts, festivals, nightlife, and a variety of family activities.
