Neighborhood Introduction | History
Redwood Shores was annexed by Redwood City in 1959. Plans for developing its first large-scale residential development were approved nine years later. By then, it was also the site of the animal-themed amusement park Marine World. But even until 1969, Redwood Shores was still mostly uninhabitable, comprising mainly salt ponds and tidelands.
Marlin Park/Cole is named after the waterfront park around which it is built. It is a sought-after neighborhood offering commuter convenience. It also has quick access to shopping and dining. The world headquarters of Electronic Arts is only a 15-minute walk away.
Marlin Park/Cole has a suburban charm and a quiet, relaxed feel. It has a strong sense of community and is served by the Redwood Shores Owners Association.
Housing in the Neighborhood
The neighborhood has 156 single-family homes and 38 attached units. These come with two or four bedrooms. They offer anywhere between 1,100 square feet and 2,000 square feet of living space. Over the years, Marlin Park/Cole has evolved and become architecturally diverse. There are large homes such as those on Harbor Colony Court, which have four or five bedrooms, and more than 3,000 square feet of living space. Smaller three-bedroom homes are located on the park’s south side. These offer less than 1,500 square feet of living space. Hastings condominium complex is comprised of two and three bedroom homes constructed between 1995 and 2005.

The neighborhood park – Marlin Park – features two picnic areas with tables and grills. It is also home to a baseball/soccer field. The 3.68 acre Shorebird Park has a play area, picnic area, tennis courts and BBQ pits. Restaurants and shops are located at The Marketplace. The Pacific Athletic Club is a premier, award-winning health and fitness resort sprawling across 10 acres in the South Bay. It houses four swimming pools, nine tennis courts, the Sanctuary Spa, the Splash Landing water park and a 15,000 square foot fitness center.
